Sofia University, founded in 1975 by Dr. Robert Frager and Dr. James Fadiman, was originally known as the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. It was established to provide ongoing training courses for psychologists.

»Typically, international students must complete 1 year of coursework before applying for CPT. However, this rule does not apply to F1 Transfer students (those already studying in the U.S.) for the MBA and MSCS programs. This means that if a student secures an internship, the school allows them to start their CPT internship from the first day of classes.

»There is no gap between CPT sessions each term, allowing for 365 days of CPT work throughout the year.

»To apply for CPT, an offer letter from the employer is required (an onboarding offer letter is also acceptable), along with a CPT agreement signed by a supervisor or HR.

»The CPT agreement can be substituted with an employment letter or offer letter. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.

»The school operates on a quarter system, with four quarters each year, each lasting 11 weeks. After completing three consecutive quarters, students can take a break for one quarter, and full-time CPT is also available during this break quarter.

»The program adopts a hybrid format. Each semester, students must take at least two courses (each course is worth 3 credits, totaling 6 credits, with CPT counted as an additional credit). One course is online, and the other is onsite.

»For the onsite course, students visit the campus once a month, totaling three times a semester, either on Saturday or Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. The other two sessions are conducted via Zoom, making it five sessions in total.

»The other course, which is 100% online, doesn't have a fixed schedule or Zoom meetings. It follows a self-study mode where students log into the school's CANVAS platform to access content and complete assignments (weekly login required). Students with strong learning abilities and high efficiency can finish the course content and assignments more quickly.

On average, the coursework for both courses can be completed in 1-2 hours per week.

Online Learning:

  • »Apart from the Onsite day, most courses are conducted on the university's online platform, Moodle.
  • »While some courses have live Zoom sessions, most are pre-recorded or offer optional Zoom discussions. This format provides students with flexibility in their study schedules.

Summer Term and CPT:

  • »Students can apply for a break during the Summer term without completing a full academic year.
  • »Even during the Summer break, students can choose a 0.5-credit CPT course for full-time work.

Important Note:

  • »Maintain a GPA above 3.0 during your studies. Falling below this threshold not only jeopardizes graduation but also terminates Full-time CPT privileges.

Only the MBA and MSCS programs allow F1 Transfer students to start their CPT internships from the first day of school.

Note:Sofia University scholarships are typically disbursed in four installments over a year to offset tuition fees. Students can apply for multiple scholarships, but usually only receive one.
