When does the FY2025 H1b lottery result come out?

The results for the Fiscal Year(FY) 2025 H1B lottery have started being announced from the evening of March 27, 2025. We're in close contact with several immigration attorneys who have already started receiving selection notifications for their clients.

By April 1st this year, we expect that the majority of applicants will know their H1B lottery fate, whether they've been selected or not.

How to check my H1B Result?

The only step to check your H1B lottery result is through your employer or the legal representative who filed the H1B petition on your behalf.

Therefore, it's essential to maintain close communication with your employer or attorney to receive updates about your application status.

You can wait until after April 1st to contact your employer to ensure you receive the latest status of your H1B lottery result.

If you're lucky enough to win the H1B lottery, remember to submit your H1B application materials within three months. For a detailed list of materials, please read <The Criticla 90 Days After Winning the H1b Lottery>.

When will the FY2025 H1B lottery end?

According to USCIS official statements, the lottery results will be issued progressively until April 1st. However, if it's past April 1st and many applicants find their application status listed as "Submitted" on the USCIS online portal, it doesn't mean you weren't selected. It indicates that you are still in the H1B lottery pool.

Just like in FY 2023, USCIS conducted two rounds of the H1B Lottery, and even in FY 2020, USCIS held three rounds of the H1B Lottery. So, there's still a chance.

The second round of the lottery might occur in July this year. Therefore, unless USCIS announces that the FY2025 H1B lottery is officially over, everyone still has a chance.

Exploring Alternatives After H1B Lottery Non-selection

Not being selected in the H1B lottery can be disheartening, but it's not the end of the road. There are several viable alternatives to consider that can still fulfill your dream of working or continuing your stay in the U.S.
  • O-1 Visa
  • L-1 Visa
  • Cap-Exempt H1B
  • Day 1 CPT Universities
  • EB-2 NIW

O-1 Visa: Extraordinary Ability or Achievement

The O-1 visa is tailored for individuals who demonstrate extraordinary ability in fields such as science, arts, education, business, or athletics, or have a proven record in the film or television industry. This visa category is ideal for those with significant achievements and allows for indefinite renewals under certain conditions.

Pros: No annual cap, broad eligibility criteria, and potential for immediate work commencement.

Cons: Requires a high level of achievement, employer sponsorship, and advance preparation.

L-1 Visa: Intracompany Transferees

For professionals working in multinational companies, the L-1 visa facilitates the transfer to a U.S. office. It encompasses L-1A for executives and managers and L-1B for employees with specialized knowledge.

Pros: Includes visas for accompanying family members, supports dual intent, and has a relatively high approval rate with thorough documentation.

Cons: Tied to the employer, subject to renewal requirements, and limited to a maximum stay of 5 or 7 years.

Cap-Exempt H1B Positions

Seeking employment with institutions that are exempt from the H1B cap, such as higher education institutions and their affiliated nonprofit entities, or nonprofit/governmental research organizations, provides an opportunity to file H1B petitions any time of the year.

Day 1 CPT Programs: Education and Work Authorization

Enrolling in a Day 1 CPT program allows you to study and work in the U.S. under an F1 visa. These programs, often at the master's level, integrate work experience from the start and offer a pathway to CPT authorization.

Pro: Simplified application process, potential for OPT post-graduation, and no waiting for annual lottery selection.

Cons: Requires careful selection of accredited institutions, associated tuition costs, and maintaining a minimum GPA for CPT eligibility.

EB-2 NIW: National Interest Waiver for Advanced Degrees or Exceptional Ability

The EB-2 visa category is for professionals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability, especially those whose work serves the U.S. national interest. This path allows for skipping the labor certification process, leading directly to a green card application.

Pros: Avoids the labor certification route, and can expedite the path to permanent residency.

Cons: High eligibility criteria, and might require extensive documentation to demonstrate national interest benefit.

If you weren't selected in this year's H1B Lottery and your OPT is coming to an end, considering enrolling in a Day 1 CPT University could be a great option to prolong your stay and enhance your professional skills.
